Superstitions I
Twenty-five million years ago a massive volcano erupted just east of Phoenix, Arizona, covering hundreds of square miles with lava and ash. It then collapsed into a caldera, then slowly "resurged" to form the rugged, forbidding Superstition Mountains. This is the western rampart of the range on a hazy morning.
